Thato is a qualified Chartered Accountant and started his career at Deloitte and Touche in the financial services division and gained exposure across various sub sectors such as long-term insurance, credit providers and banking institutions, as well as a period spent in the Deloitte Los Angeles office.
Subsequently he joined a management consulting firm, Step Advisory, where he gained significant experience in strategy development as well as competitor, value proposition and customer segmentation analysis. He also honed his skills in business analysis, financial modelling, strategy facilitation and strategic communication.
Thato is currently the impact investment manager at the Mineworkers Investment Company (“MIC”) and is responsible for MIC’s impact investment portfolio, as well as assisting the CEO with special projects. The portfolio is focused on establishing a presence in venture capital, specifically on enabling previously disadvantaged technology entrepreneurs and founders in South Africa. Thato serves on the boards of MIC Khulisani Ventures investments namely Rentoza and Kelo.Africa.
